Not related to aloe, but actually a member of the agave family.

The Century Plant, Agave americana, is a monocarpic plant that is native to Mexico, Central and South America, and the southern and southwestern U.S. In Mexico, the plant is used to make the national drink, pulque, and mescal, a strong distilled alcoholic beverage better known as tequila.
