Three million to 50 million in one gram of soil
Bacteria are microscopic organisms which are all around us. Certain strains can cause diseases, while others can be quite beneficial. Most bacteria which live in soil take an active part in breaking down organic matter into nitrogen and other plant nutrients, and add their waste and dead bodies to the organic matter of the soil.
