What are Perennials?

Long-lived Plants

From the Latin per, which means “through” or “throughout” and annus, which means “year.”

Perennials are plants that live longer than two years. Trees and shrubs are always considered perennials, specifically woody perennials.

Herbaceous perennials are plants that generally lose their foliage every year, and may even die back to the ground, before sprouting again the next spring.
