What are Rhizomes?

Many plants reproduce by rhizomes.

A rhizome is a stem of a plant that grows beneath the surface of the soil, from which new growth sprouts. Asparagus, irises, Lily of the Valley and field bindweed are examples of plants that can reproduce through rhizomes.
