Drip irrigation is a method to conserve water and irrigate crops efficiently.

This is a method that applies water slowly to the roots of the plants, significantly reducing evaporation and run off loss.

Modern drip irrigation is done through a series of pipes, valves, tubes and emitters. It is becoming widely used in row crop irrigation, especially in arid areas where water supplies are limited. Experiments in Africa, Asia and the Americas have shown that drip irrigation, when properly used, can significantly increase yields without chemical fertilizers.
