A rapidly diminishing resource as population grows, ground water is precious.
Ground water is water that is beneath the surface of the ground. It is trapped in spaces created by soil or geologic fractures. Much of the ground water used is in formations called aquifers. Ground water is replenished by surface water in the form of precipitation, by rivers and streams. The total volume of ground water is estimated to be 50 times that of surface water.
