Plants can be either monecious or dioecious.
Monecious (moan-EE-shus) refers to plants which have both male and female flowers (stamins and pistels) on the same plant. Individual species which have separate male and female plants, and are either one sex or the other, are called dioecious (dy-EE-shus).
