What is Pollination?

Sexual reproduction in plants.

Plants have several methods of reproduction, although the major reproductive process in most plants is through pollination.

Pollen (which is the male sperm) is transferred to the stigma (usually by an outside source). The pollen then travels down the stigma to the plant’s ovary and fertilizes the “egg.” Once fertilized, the seed or fruit begins to form.
