Different from silt, which is finer, and gravel which is larger.

Sand occurring in non-coastal regions is finely granulated rock particles, mostly quartz or silicate, created from weathering and erosion of rock. It ranges in size from 1/16 to two millimeters. It feels gritty when rubbed between the fingers.
