Xeriscape (Pronounced zee-rih-skape, or zi-rih-scape)
From the Greek xeros meaning dry, and the English scape meaning view or vista. The term was coined by the Denver (CO) Water Department, during a public study on more efficient use of water for landscaping.
However, the term xeriscape does not mean raising plants without water. It means efficient use of water in arid areas. According to Jim Knopf, in his book, The Xeriscape Flower Garden, the term xeriscape has come to mean "water conservation through creative landscaping."
