Organic Matter for Composting

No different in the desert

Materials used for composting are no different for desert compost than they are for areas that are more humid.

There are a number of materials, which can be used for desert garden compost. Almost any organic matter can be used. Remember though that it needs equal amounts of green material (which provides nitrogen) and brown material (carbon).

Thomas Riley :
We are avid composters, but I would not recommend tea bags. The bags are made to stand boiling water, and we were confronted after a year or two with some very strange items when trying to incorporate what we thought was good garden feed; like little alien space ships. Much brain racking finally tumbled to their origin, P.G.tips. It may be successful if the bags are shredded, although I have some reservations on all that tannin in the soil, but our fine Yorkshire tea bags now go to landfill. The rest is good advice but eggshells must be crushed small or you will make their acquaintance for years.
